Three Ways

I thought about hyphenating “3 ways” in the subject line to give you your daily dose of sexual innuendo, but decided against it.Anyway… there are 3 ways I see folks go about specializing.None of them are right or wrong, but I suspect knowing about them might be useful to you if you’re considering specializing in some way.I’m not talking about vertical positioning vs horizontal positioning vs the 3 other ways you can develop a good market position. In this case I’m talking about meta-approaches to deciding how to specialize. Here they are in brief:

  1. Find your people and serve them
  2. Find your head start and build on that
  3. Pioneer something new that’s not based on the other 2 approaches

The first two approaches are all about reducing the number of options down to a few that will best align with either your emotions (#1) or your sense of pragmatism (#2). The third is the more entrepreneurial and risky of the three.Any of these three can help you specialize, which helps you develop economically valuable expertise, which then helps you raise your rates. Specializing also makes marketing a lot easier because you finally know who you are trying to connect with in your marketing and what will get their attention, hold it, and build trust over time.#1 you can almost certainly implement on your own.If you’d like help with #2 or #3, my services might be a fit: https://philipmorganconsulting.com/services/-PP.S.
